IT was a bigger and better parade than any which had come before with 34 decorated floats and marching bands in a procession around the village.
Christmas was the theme of Broadstone’s festive parade, and many youth groups and organisations strove to be the best as they donned costumes which ranged from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs to plum puddings.
“They were so good and so imaginative you wished you could give every one a cup,” said Don Harris, then president of Broadstone Chamber of Trade, which organised the event for December 2, 1989.
Father Christmas in his grotto collected presents from children to give to needy youngsters of the borough.
Cash from the street collection went to the Cancer Relief fund for a Macmillan nurse for the Broadstone area.
