Many of us spent parts of our childhood summer holidays swinging from ropes, balancing on beams and painting the scenery.
These local youngsters descended upon Beaulieu and Marchwood to engage in a raft of special activities.
From assault courses to basketball – kids were put through their paces as they pushed their physical and mental skills to the absolute max.
Some climbed ropes – eager to beat their competition to the summit, others busily sketched their surroundings.
While some of the children took the time to steady themselves on the rifle range, others raced across the gymnasium in a game of bulldog.
These pictures were taken 40 years ago on August 14, 1979.
Did you do the same kind of thing during your summer holiday?
