WORK is under way to prepare for the installation of an innovative “living wall” at a Bournemouth shopping centre.

The Avenue is undergoing a transformation and developers have released more images of how it will look when complete.

The green wall facade is set to be installed in the coming days with plans for a TV screen to be installed amongst the flora next month.

Computer Generated Images have also revealed what the interior of the centre will look like.

Verve Properties is carrying out the work and hopes to fill the centre with a range of different businesses.

It is the former home of Marks and Spencer and shops currently operating there include Perfume Shop, HMV, The Works, Sports Direct, Simons Leather and Beauty Park.

When work is complete it is hoped there will also be a range of restaurants and bars and the centre could host pop-up businesses and food traders.

Shoppers have already been given a sneak preview when Verve unveiled a quirky escalator art installation.

The installation, designed and created by The Syrup Room, features reclaimed memorabilia of years gone by, including the old Avenue sign, and is certain to be a talking point for all who visit.

It covers around 600sq ft and took nearly eight weeks to complete. It is the second piece of artwork to be commissioned for the site, with many more exciting and cutting-edge ideas in the pipeline.

Bournemouth-based Block digital created an AR (Augmented Reality) app where participants are encouraged to download the free App and then stand on one of the carefully placed arrow stickers, aiming phones at the front façade of the building to see what the proposed living wall will look like when it’s completed before the year’s out.

The new owners of The Avenue have carried out recent investigations which show that some original fabric remains, including impressive stone arched windows and art deco tiling.

In areas where the original features remain, they will be uncovered, repaired and retained.

If damage has been sustained or where the façade is missing, the affected areas will be replaced with a living wall housing a centrally located, giant seven metre TV screen.
