A YOUNG newlywed fro Poole took to the skies to do a sponsored wing walk in aid of Forest Holme Hospice.

Deanna Shepherd, who married husband Craig on 28th June, works at Forum Jewellers in Broadstone and was inspired to raise money for the company’s charity of the year.

Deanna, who flew from Compton Abbas airfield for 10 minutes, said she was more nervous about getting married than taking to the skies strapped to the top wing of a Boeing-Stearman bi plane.

She said: “I was quite surprised that I was only a little bit nervous beforehand but when I saw others taking off, I got really excited! When I got up there, I absolutely loved it.

"Our family are very grateful to Forest Holme for how they looked after my grandad and supported us, so I am happy I raised so much money for them.”

Deanna raised the amazing sum of £2,100 thanks to the generosity of family, friends and Forum customers and suppliers and already has plans for her next fundraiser.

She continues: “That’s one off the bucket list. Next is a sky dive, if I’m not having a baby by then!”

Forest Holme Hospice provides palliative and end of life care to over 1,000 local people each year across Poole, Wimborne and Purbeck.

Paul Tucker from Forest Holme said: “We are so grateful to Deanna for taking on this amazing challenge for the hospice.

“Thanks to the generosity of her family and friends, not to mention the amazing support of Forum Jeweller customers and suppliers, the amount she has raised can help fund around 30 counselling sessions for local people following their diagnosis of cancer, as well as bereavement support sessions for families who are coming to terms with life without their loved ones. She should be so proud.”
