THE 20th Wimborne in Bloom August bank holiday weekend duck race raised £1,758 towards ‘In Bloom’ funds and in particular the autumn planting.

The Mayor and Mayoress of Wimborne Minster, Councillor Shane Bartlett and Tracey Bartlett, together with members of the Wimborne in Bloom committee, launched 1,000 ducks into the River Allen by the Riverside Mews Café Bridge on Saturday August 24.

The ducks crossed the finishing line behind the Rising Sun public house in East Street.

The winner was 10-month-old Rufus Harper and Margery Ryan was in second place.

Richard Nunn, chairman of Wimborne in Bloom, said: "It really is a happy event and all who come to try to spot their ducks have happy smiling faces as they follow the race down the river."

The next Wimborne in Bloom fund raising event will be a fashion show by M&Co on Friday September 27. Tickets cost £6 each and are availabel in the store in Crown Mead, Wimborne.
