A DOG in Christchurch has given birth to a litter of six puppies, which are all female.

Tinker, a four-year-old lemon and white Beagle, gave birth to a litter of females on Thursday morning in what is her second litter.

Bournemouth Echo:

Sarah Underwood, Tinker’s owner, was surprised to find out that the litter of ‘Beagledors’, Beagle and Labrador crosses, were all bitches but is happy they are all healthy and well.

She said: “Tinker is a family dog and a very good mother, she’s a very lovable dog and loves her puppies very much. The father is a Labrador owned by a friend of mine.”

Bournemouth Echo:

Whilst vets would normally expect a more even mix of male and female puppies in a litter, the occurrence of an all-female litter “isn’t particularly unusual”, according to the RSPCA and The Kennel Club.

Although she hasn’t begun naming the puppies yet, Sarah already has a theme in mind. As Tinker is a lemon and white beagle, she is sometimes called Lemon Drizzle, so she is thinking of sticking to names which are cake related.

Bournemouth Echo:

However, it is still early days Sarah, who has lived in Purewell for 21 years, is waiting for them to grow a bit before naming the dogs. “The dogs aren’t even a week old yet,” she said.

“When they start getting bigger and walking around and playing with each other, you start to see what kind of characters they’ll turn into and that helps you to name them.”At the moment they just sleep and feed and do whatever puppies do.”
