PLANS to establish a new legal arrangement to allow an “unloved” seafront arcade in Bournemouth to be redeveloped have been put on hold.

Last year concept plans for the conversion of the Happyland Amusements into a hotel were published with developers invited to submit plans for the site.

BCP Council cabinet members had been due to approve the formation of a new ‘special purpose vehicle’ with landowner the Gervis Meyrick Estate on Friday to allow plans to move forward.

The council has a 999-year lease for the building but the new arrangement would be required for its redevelopment to take place.

But this was put on hold until September because there were “a number of issues” that councillors wanted to be clarified.

Development ideas submitted to the council include hotels and restaurants.
