HERE are seven new restaurants/takeaways in Bournemouth that you might not have heard of yet that are worth a try...

1. Pygmy Pineapple in Seamoor Road, Westbourne. Restaurant specialising in handmade seasonal high end food at mid-range prices including an excellent brunch and lunch menu with the fresh taste of produce picked from their own back garden. Known for its “relaxed vibe”.

2. Ze German Schlawiner in Old Christchurch Road, Bournemouth. A German food takeaway offering fast, affordable favourites including a Berlin style currywurst, a range of German sausages and Kasepatzle (German noodles with bacon and cheese).

3. The Brunch Club in Old Christchurch Road, Bournemouth. Cool retro coffee hangout serving comfort food such as Ferris Bueller’s All Day Breakfast to Yuppie Pies and good fresh coffee as well as Eighties-style board games, a pool table and a retro arcade.

4. Embers Smokehouse in Poole Hill, Bournemouth. Restaurant and takeaway offering chicken and ribs which are smoked in-house. Portions are described as respectable for the price. Also offers burgers, hotdogs, wraps and a vegetarian menu.

5. Desi Dhaba is an Indian restaurant based at the Russell Court Hotel in Bath Road which specialises in vegetarian Indian street food. Vegan dishes also available every Sunday.

6. Cockle & Clam is due to open any day soon in Poole Road, Westbourne (site of former pizzeria Baffi). It’s described as an open-kitchen seafood bar and grill which will specialise in sustainable, seasonal, fresh British fish served in a tapas style (sample menu includes oysters and crab souffle). The restaurant also aims to offer vegan and vegetarian dishes.

7. Urban Garden tucked away in Bournemouth Gardens, is the latest project from The Urban Guild. It’s described as a garden, bar and restaurant surrounded by plants and foliage offering “local, seasonal and ethical” breakfasts, light lunches such as nachos and evening menus from hearty bowls of risotto to chargrilled steaks. Prices look reasonable.
