THE man killed after being struck by a train at Pokesdown railway station on Tuesday has been named at an inquest as Gary Wayne Sellman.

An inquest into his death was opened and adjourned at Dorset Coroner's Court, Bournemouth Town Hall, on Friday.

Dorset coroner's officer Ken McEwan told the short hearing that Mr Sellman entered Pokesdown railway station on Tuesday, at approximately 6.11am.

Mr McEwan said the 27-year-old, of Walpole Road, Bournemouth, was seen to collide with a non-stopping train at 6.29am.

Police and paramedics were called and attended the station.

Mr Sellman was later identified via his fingerprints, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A post mortem examination was carried out at Bournemouth's Holly Tree Lodge Mortuary last Thursday, where the pathologist recorded the cause of death as multiple injuries after being struck by a train.

Assistant Dorset Coroner Brendan Allen adjourned Friday's hearing until November 18, this year, to allow further investigations to be carried out.

Mr Allen said he would be requesting statements from police who attended the scene, Mr Sellman's family and his GP.

The assistant coroner also said he would be working to establish whether Mr Sellman was known to the community mental health team.

After the incident all lines between Bournemouth and Brockenhurst stations were blocked, with services recommencing by mid-morning.
