The annual Corfe Mullen parade took place under sunny skies in 1979 with the Carnival Queen Johanne Wilding, aged 15, formally opening the event.

Fifteen floats starting from Alder Road wound its way to the recreation ground.

Winners of the float competition in the 11 years up category were the 3rd Corfe Mullen Brownies with an English Country Garden.

In the intermediate 11-18 year group was won by 1st Corfe Mullen Guides with their Hall of Horrors entry. Senior category was won by St Hubert's Church mothers union with Symphony in Blue.

The children's fancy dress parade was won jointly by Helen Bailey as Wonderwoman and Nathan and Hannah Pierce as witches.

A collection of £150 was shared between St John Ambulance, Lockyers Library fund, Corfe Hill School Library fund and Local scouts and guides.
