A WOMAN has died following a crash involving a car and a lorry in the New Forest last night.

The crash happened on the A337 Brockenhurst to Lyndhurst road with officers called to the scene at 5pm.

The driver of the Skoda, a 61-year-old woman from Sway, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the woman's next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

The driver of the lorry, a 53-year-old man from Gloucestershire, was uninjured.

The crash happened near the entrances to Hollands Wood campsite and New Park in Brockenhurst.

Investigations into the exact circumstances of the collision are ongoing.

Sgt Rebecca Hodge, from the Joint Roads Policing Unit, said: “We are particularly keen to speak to the drivers of two vehicles who were directly behind the collision.

“We understand that they turned around and drove off before we arrived, so we would like to speak to these people as they may have information that could help with our investigation.”

Two crews from Lymington were joined by colleagues from Lyndhurst and Redbridge. A special equipment unit was among the vehicles sent to the scene.

The A337 was closed for some time while police investigated the crash and re-opened at around 1am on Friday morning.

Northbound traffic was being diverted along Balmer Lawn Road, part of the Brockenhurst to Beaulieu route.

Anyone with information about the collision or who may have dash cam footage from the area should call 101, quoting 44190195019.
