A WOMAN in a car was sexually assaulted while she was parked in a layby in north Dorset.

The incident happened mid-afternoon on Thursday, May 16, in the Five Bridges layby on the A30 near to Henstridge.

It was reported to police two days later.

The victim, a woman aged in her 40s, was sitting inside her blue car when an unknown man opened the door and sexually assaulted her.

Detectives are now appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Dave Horn, of Weymouth CID, said: “A full investigation is under way in relation to this incident and the victim is being supported by specially trained officers.

“I am appealing to anyone who was passing the layby at the relevant time and may have witnessed the incident to please contact Dorset Police.

“I am particularly keen to hear from anyone who saw a red car near to a blue car.

“Finally, I would appeal to any motorists who were driving along the A30 on that afternoon with dashcam fitted, and may have captured either of these vehicles, to please call me.”
