A VOLUNTEER has proved that helping the community is good for your health by celebrating her 90th birthday.

Eunice Crabb has been a volunteer at the Regent Centre in Christchurch for 35 years, helping out in the venue's box office.

Members of the management team and fellow volunteers gathered in the building's foyer at 6pm on Thursday, May 2 for a special celebration.

Eunice, who lives in Christchurch and can still be found at her post in the box office every Thursday evening, selling tickets to local film fans and theatre goers.

Eunice is also the grandmother of Regent Centre general manager, Felicity Porter, who was on hand at the party to lead the tributes to Eunice.

Felicity said: “I would stand here and do this if any of our volunteers were to reach 90, it just so happens that this volunteer is my Nana! I think you would all agree that if we get to 90 we deserve a fuss to be made of us.

"Eunice has been a volunteer here for 35 years and has sat on the box office every Thursday night. That in itself is an amazing feat and the fact she is 90!”

When asked her what her secret to a long life was, Eunice said she didn't have one, but she did add that she doesn’t drink and that she thinks her weekly dance classes in Kinson keep her active and on her toes.

Anyone who wants to find out about Eunice’s secret to eternal youth can apply to the Regent in person or on the venue's website, regentcentre.co.uk, to find out more about becoming a volunteer at the centre.
