A MAN who lived alone was only discovered dead by police after neighbours became concerned they had not seen him for several days, an inquest heard.
Gillingham resident Roger John Preston was 75 at the time of his death at his home in Roseberry Gardens.
An inquest into his death was opened at Bournemouth Coroner's Court on Wednesday, April 10.
Coroner's officer Ken McEwan told the inquest that Mr Preston, a single retired planning officer, was found deceased in his bed by police officers on Wednesday, April 3.
It followed a call from concerned neighbours who had not seen Mr Preston for a "few days".
Police identified Mr Preston from the photo on his driving licence.
A post-mortem examination was carried out on Friday, April 5, but the cause of death was 'unascertained', the inquest heard.
The hearing was adjourned until November 21.
