A WOMAN has been arrested following a concern for welfare incident at Ashley Heath Roundabout this morning.

Police were called to reports of a woman on the wrong side of the barriers above the A31 at 7.27am.

Officers and specially trained negotiators attended and spoke to the woman.

Dorset Police said that to ensure the safety of the woman and other road users, the eastbound lane of the A31 was closed while officers dealt with the situation.

It reopened at 8.20am after the woman was brought to safety.

The 18-year-old woman from Bournemouth has been arrested on suspicion of causing a public nuisance and is assisting officers with their enquiries.

Inspector Stu Pitman, of East Dorset police, said: “I would like to thank motorists for their patience and understanding during the road closure, which was entirely necessary to ensure the safety of everyone involved.

“I would also like to praise my officers for their professionalism shown throughout this incident and for assisting in keeping disruption to an absolute minimum.”
