A MAN suffered fractured ribs following a “nasty” assault by a group of men outside a Bournemouth supermarket in the early hours.

The incident happened outside The Golden Supermarket in Charminster Road at around 4.55am on Sunday, March 17.

It is understood an altercation had occurred between the victim and the other men.

The victim, a man aged in his 40s, was punched and kicked in the head and also sustained injuries to his face.

He was taken to hospital for treatment and was discharged the same day.

Police Constable Dominic Frost, of Bournemouth police, said: “This was a nasty assault and enquiries are underway to establish the full circumstances, including CCTV checks.

“I would ask anyone who was in the Charminster Road area at the time and either witnessed the assault or saw anything suspicious to please contact Dorset Police.”
