THE next Dorset Vintage and Classic Auctions sale boasts hundreds of thousands of pounds-worth of automotive history.

Held at Henstridge Airfield, midway between Shaftesbury and Sherborne, the sale, later this month, attracts enthusiasts from across the UK.

Auction director Briant Chant has line up a number of classics, including six Austin 7 derivatives from 1930-1938.

Among the other vehicles set to impress include a 1904 Oldsmobile 7hp Curved Dash Runabout, which successfully completed the London-Brighton veteran car run last November, and is priced from £50,000 to £55,000.

But for buyers interested in something with a bit more power, the iconic 1973 Daytona Yellow Mk 1 Ford Capri, with its 2.6 litre Cologne engine, could prove a snip at £13,500-£15,000.

Mr Chant said: "There's continuing appetite for cars that catch the eye of bidders in Dorset and further afield, reflected in our November sale bringing a world top 50 price for a Jaguar E Type.

"The wide and varied mix in the next sale will help this season take off. Keen enthusiasts who want to bid but lead a busy life can eschew the telephone and fly in to Henstridge Airfield, which now has an upgraded clubhouse and facilities, to secure their purchase in person if they wish."

The auction is scheduled for March 21.
