BROWNSEA Island will be hosting the first of its Spring Ranger days during the February half term.

The island has woken from its winter slumber, opening for visitors at weekends throughout this month and March.

But on Wednesday, February 20, the island's Spring Ranger day provides an opportunity for young people to follow in the footsteps of on the the National Trust team and learn some bush craft skills.

Visitor experience and volunteering manager Olivia Gruitt, said: "It is a great opportunity to make friends, get active and make a real difference in helping the team look after this special place.

"Also during the half term weekends, there's a special wintry treat; you can head to the outdoor centre and get toasty by the campfire and toast some marshmallows as a well-deserved ending to your winter walk."

The visitor centre will be open to pick up free family trails, including the tree climbing trail which takes you up to the island's natural play area.

There's also colouring in and a nature display for younger children.
