FOUR weeks of works to bring a set of lights at a pedestrian crossing in Christchurch into operation are due to start on Monday.
The puffin crossing in Somerford Road opposite the Meteor Retail Park has not been in use since it was installed in September last year.
As reported by the Daily Echo, highways officers revealed “unforeseen issues” had emerged after the lights had been put in place.
Following discussions between Dorset County Council engineers and the retail park developers, who installed the crossing, the “remedial work” is scheduled for four weeks.
At present the work is not expected to need temporary traffic lights.
When the crossing was installed roadworks were required which encroached onto the highway and caused major traffic disruption in Somerford and back along Lymington Road towards Highcliffe.
Christchurch councillors, including Mayor Lesley Dedman, have called for the developers to go back to drawing board to improve the layout of the crossing.
