FOLLOWING months of consternation, negotiation, resignations - and cancellations - the 'meaningful vote' on Theresa May's Brexit deal is finally set to take place in the House of Commons today.

While the Prime Minister has urged MPs to back the deal for the sake of the country, it is clear many opponents will not be changing their minds.

As it stand the UK will leave the European Union on Friday, March 29.

What do ordinary voters in Bournemouth thing should happen today?

Mum-of-two Tina Spicer, aged 32, told the Daily Echo: "We need to move on whatever now.

"Of course, I'd rather not crash out without a deal, and we are fooling ourselves if we think a better one is going to come.

"I think now is the time for MPs to back Theresa May's deal."

Meanwhile, Bournemouth retailer Peter Collinson, said: "I heard someone saying the only certainty for business, since the referendum, had been uncertainty.

"For the international businesses, and for those that trade with Europe, of course we need a deal... or better still, to remain in the EU.

"But for many other businesses it may not be the calamity everyone predicts.

"I do believe that we must now move forward, have this vote and get on with it. Saying that, I very much doubt it is going to go the Prime Minister's way."

Jake Arthur, aged 49, of Poole, told the Echo the country had voted to leave the EU, and that MPs should respect this democratic decision.

He added: "This so-called deal should be voted down and we should leave, like we voted for in the first place."

Likewise, Bournemouth resident Hugh Whiting, aged 74, said: "The deal MPs will be voting on today, as it stands, is not a good deal for this country."
