THE air ambulance landed in Bournemouth on Monday after a man fell through a manhole cover in the town centre.

Paramedics and firefighters rushed to Exeter Crescent after the casualty was injured near the BH2 leisure complex during the morning.

The man, who was wearing a high-visibility jacket, sustained leg and back injuries and was taken to Poole Hospital by road ambulance.

It is believed he had been standing near large waste bins used by businesses when he fell.

A spokesperson from the Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said crews from Westbourne, Springbourne and Redhill, as well as a technical rescue team from Poole, were called out just after 10.35am to hoist the man out.

The ambulance service sent an operations officer, two ambulances and a rapid response vehicle.
