A FRESH set of proposals have been put forward to build an additional 24 homes as the final part of a major development scheme in Ringwood.

Applicants Linden Homes are seeking permission from New Forest District Council to utilise "surplus land" on the Crow Arch Lane site.

If approved, this would take to 199 dwellings the overall number on the Beaumont Park development.

The proposals set out building 12 open market properties - four four-bed and eight three-bed houses - and 12 affordable units - six one-bed flats, four-two bed houses and two-three bed houses.

A statement submitted by Terrence O'Rourke on behalf of Linden Homes says: "The proposal has been carefully considered and will provide a high-quality development reflecting the applicant’s desire to create an attractive development, of a design that responds positively to the character of the wider site and local context."

The latest scheme from Linden Homes would take the development beyond the threshold set when the development first came before planners more than four years ago.

Initial outline planning permission was granted for up to 175 homes on the overall site in October 2014.

Subsequent detailed applications for 62 dwellings in phase one and 113 dwellings in phase two, as well as a third phase for businesses units and a care home have all been approved by New Forest District Council planners.

Members of Ringwood Town Council's planning committee are due to meet tomorrow to discuss the new proposal and give their response to the district council.

Residents hit out at the development last year over its lack of "genuinely affordable housing".

Cllr Philip Day said people do not want "affordable houses based on technical definitions".

He said they want "cheap houses that people can afford to buy".

The latest application from Linden Homes came to fruition in response to the backlash from the community.

A spokesperson for the developer said: "We always strive to meet local demand. While our homes at Beaumont Park are selling very well, we’ve listened to what our purchasers and the local community are telling us.

"We see this as a very positive move and will be letting local residents know and issuing a press statement as soon as we submit our application.

"New Forest District Council is, in principle, supportive of what we are looking to achieve."
