1 Hear some of favourite festive songs performed by the BSO at Lighthouse on Saturday. Last Night of the Christmas Proms will feature Jingle Bells, White Christmas, Sleigh Ride, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas and Walking in a Winter Wonderland.

2 Celebrate the winter solstice at Corfe Castle tomorrow morning. The castle gates will open at 7.15am giving visitors enough time to find the perfect spot to watch the sunrise. Tickets cost £12 which includes a hot drink and a breakfast roll. Then on Saturday and Sunday, children can make their own Christmas decoration between 11am and 4pm. Normal admission applies to the castle plus £1.50 for craft activities.

3 It wouldn’t be Christmas without a good old-fashioned panto or Christmas show and there are plenty to choose from. I’m A Celebrity’s Rita Simons is appearing in Sleeping Beauty at the Pavilion Theatre while Chris Jarvis is starring in Dick Whittington at Poole Lighthouse. Cinderella starts at the Tivoli in Wimborne tomorrow and Christchurch’s Christmas Spectacular takes place at the Regent Centre.

4 The Bournemouth Big Wheel light and pyrotechnic shows return on Friday and Saturday night with displays at 5.30pm and 8.30pm. The free displays last six minutes and the final one will take place next Friday. The Christmas Tree Wonderland attraction will also be continuing until January 2 featuring a free festive trail, outdoor ice rink and Christmas market.

5 Westbourne’s Victorian Christmas celebrations come to a close on Saturday. Visitors will be treated to a a host of festive entertainment between 10am and 4pm including walkabouts, characters and performances.

6 Family-friendly dance show Night Tree runs at Bournemouth’s Pavilion Dance between until Christmas Eve. Based on Eve Bunting's book of the same name, the audience is invited to “come into the woods to dance in the snow and bask in the glistening seasonal lights.”

8 A host of Christmas craft activities for youngsters are taking place at Avon Heath Country Park this weekend. On Saturday, children can make their own decorations from clay with sessions taking place at 11am and 2pm. Then on Sunday, they can make their own festive snowman with sessions at 11.30am and 12.30pm. Booking is essential and charges apply.

9 A Christmas-themed junior parkrun is being held at Moors Valley Country Park and Forest on Sunday. Participants are encouraged to wear fancy dress for the 2k event which takes place between 8.45am and 10am.

10 Upton Country Park's popular end of term children's disco returns tomorrow between 4pm and 6pm. The event is being held in the tea rooms and costs £3.95 per child.

11 Enjoy a 90-minute Christmas canoe on Beaulieu River in search of Father Christmas on Saturday between 10.30am and 12pm. Costs £25 for adults and £19 for children. All children will receive a gift from Santa and there will be hot chocolate served to keep you toasty.
