RESIDENTS across Dorset are being urged to be on their guard over ‘Nottingham Knockers’.
The warning comes after a number of incidents have been reported across the county in the run-up to Christmas.
Police say the doorstep callers target areas and offer small household products for sale, which are likely to have been stolen.
Usually the callers claim to be ex-convicts attempting to mend their ways, however police say they are not part of any recognised rehabilitation scheme.
A spokesperson for Purbeck Police said: “We are concerned about potential links to scoping out addresses for burglary and other acquisitive crime.
“Please do not open the door to strangers or purchase anything from doorstep sellers.”
Anyone who witnesses any suspicious activity is asked to contact Dorset Police on 101 or call 999 as it’s happening.
