HUNDREDS braved the rain to see special guest Eddie Howe turn on the Christmas lights in Wimborne Minster.

On a rare Saturday afternoon away from football, the AFC Bournemouth manager was on hand to help Mayor Kelly Webb to kick off the festive season in style.

The former QE school is hoping to claim a win against Arsenal at Vitality Stadium this weekend, but first he had the responsibility of making sure the town shone brightly with Christmas decorations.

AFC Bournemouth player liaison officer and former goalkeeper Jimmy Glass joined the manager on stage and provided the crowd with an impromptu interview on all things Cherries.

Before the switch-on Finley Daw, 11, a pupil at Allenbourn Middle School, and Elsie Gray, 7, a pupil at St John's First School, received prizes for winning the town council's “Design a Christmas Card” competition.

The traditional performance from the Wimborne Militia firing muskets took place outside the Minster, providing their trademark loud and bright display for crowds to enjoy.
