DORSET has a stunning coastline but just how easy is it to get to the cliffs, bays and beaches of the Jurassic Coast?

Residents are being invited to air their views in a new coastal survey.

The Dorset Coast Forum wants to know how people find getting about along the coast and what could be improved.

How useable are the footpaths, can delights such as Lulworth Cove and Old Harry be reached by public transport and what types of signs and information are most helpful?

It is hoped the survey will provide a wealth of valuable information to shape future management of coastal paths and transport links.

Jodie McGregor from the Dorset Coast Forum will carry out the survey.

"Essential information is needed from users of the coast to consider their particular needs, such as what information they would like to see on signs along the coast and what facilities they use," she said.

"We particularly want to find out what barriers exist that stop people from being able to fully enjoy our coastal landscapes."

She has been out talking to visitors at a number of locations along the coast, which has World Heritage Status and is an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Its combination of landscape, wildlife and people make it one of Dorset's most important environmental and economic assets.

The survey is part of a new Coastal Corridor Action Plan being developed by the Dorset and East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Partnerships, the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Team, Dorset Countryside, Dorset Coast Forum, National Trust, Natural England and South West Coast Path Team.

It is being carried out until October 31 and is available online. To take part go to dorsetforyou.com/coastal survey.
