THERE'S nothing startlingly original here but the new sitcom from Fred Barron passes the time enjoyably enough.

Nicholas Lyndhurst plays divorced dad Jimmy, invited back into the family home to look after the kids while his "ex" goes off to Africa on a nursing aid mission. Adding the acid to the comic chemistry is Celia Imrie as the former mother-in-law who never understood what her daughter saw in Jimmy.

Lyndhurst and Imrie spark off each other well and the glimpses of grudging respect and affection through the hostility are effectively conveyed. Amanda Abbington plays Jimmy's long-suffering girlfriend and Dani Harmer and Ryan Sampson are the bolshie teenagers.
