SAFETY checks were carried out on the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance in the aftermath of the Leicester City helicopter crash.

The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) issued an emergency Airworthiness Directive focusing on the tail rotor of all AW169 aircraft.

Club owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha and four others died in the crash at the King Power stadium on October 27.

Safety checks on Agusta Westland AW 169, and those of a similar design,were ordered as a "precautionary measure."

A spokesman told the Daily Echo: "All of the 169s had to check their tail rotors, we've been doing it since the incident anyway.

"Our aircraft right now is absolutely fine, we had the relevant checks and nothing untoward has been found.

"Safety of our crew and patients is of paramount importance."

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) is conducting an investigation into the cause of the Leicester crash, having taken the wreckage to a facility in Farnborough, Hampshire.
