BOURNEMOUTH has been placed at the ‘healthier’ end of a list identifying the healthiest and unhealthiest towns in the UK.

The Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH) looked at looked at 70 towns and cities across the UK.

Each location was scored according to the number of ‘healthy’ and ‘unhealthy’ businesses in the main shopping areas.

Bournemouth was placed 45th out of 70 and came at the ‘healthier’ end of the table.

Grimsby was named as having the unhealthiest high street with Edinburgh having the healthiest.

Research carried out by the RSPH found that residents living in towns with lots of bookies and off-licences die younger than those with plenty of libraries and pharmacies.

While those living in the top 10 healthy areas lived an average of two-and-a-half years longer than those with the 10 unhealthiest high streets.

In July, the Daily Echo reported that Bournemouth has one of the highest rates of fast food restaurants per 100,000 people, according to figures from Public Health England.
