AN ALLEGED drug driver was stopped with a baby and a toddler in the backseat, police say.

Officers stopped a Volkswagen in Palmerston Road, Boscombe on Thursday afternoon after receiving a tip-off that the motorist was driving under the influence and without insurance.

When the vehicle was stopped, children aged three months and 18 months old were inside. The male driver then allegedly failed a roadside drugs test for cannabis.

He was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and driving without insurance and his vehicle was seized.

On the same day, police stopped an Astra in Boscombe after checks showed the vehicle had no insurance. The MOT had also expired in November 2017.

A spokesperson from Dorset Police's No Excuses team said: "The driver's first words to us were, 'I’m not having a good day, what do you want?'"

Police issued him with six points, as well as a £400 fine. The vehicle was also taken off the roads.

A short time later, a Vauxhall Corsa seen in Holdenhurst Road was flagged up by a police system for having no insurance.

As officers turned their marked car to follow it, the Corsa left the main road and went onto a drive.

Police allege the driver has been twice disqualified by the courts and had been attempting to make off without being seen.

He was issued with a summons to attend court.

Officers then stopped the driver of a lorry who was seen driving along Castle Lane West in Bournemouth while on his mobile phone.

He was given six points and a £200 fine.

While out in Castle Lane West, the team spotted a Ford parked on zig zags near a pedestrian crossing.

The driver was given three points and a £100 fine, but may be disqualified as they already have nine points - some of which were also given for parking on a zig zag.
