A NATIONAL film company is appealing for people to share their memories of Bournemouth Pier for an educational drama documentary.

The Pier project is an attempt to celebrate the heritage of the iconic landmark and bring 150 years of history to life for the first time.

Film-makers are now urging people to get in touch and tell them what Bournemouth Pier means to them. The best stories will be shortlisted and a selected few will be re-enacted on Bournemouth beach.

Producers will be at Aruba bar and restaurant between 11am and 2pm tomorrow and members of the public are invited to go down and share their stories.

Producer Adam Merrifield said: "This is not going to be about facts and figures - it's all about the living memories of people who have grown up with the pier.

"We want the people of Bournemouth to tell us their stories. There must be couples who met on the Pier, people who fell in love on the Pier - there might even be someone who has given birth on the Pier.

"We also want archive material and photos, anything to help us recreate the scene.

"I'm really excited about the project. I've grown up in Bournemouth and it's nice to be able to do something to help capture the memory of the most significant building in the town for future generations."

The project will result in a DVD which will be distributed free to schools and streamed online at the website ourpier.co.uk.

All the information gathered throughout the project will be made available to historical archives and local young people will be able to get involved with every stage of the project.

Members of the local community will be invited to help undertake research and conduct interviews, assist with the production of the DVD and help market and promote the finished product.
