BUS operator Morebus has taken part in a study which aims to provide better transport links to people living in edge of town housing developments.

It has contributed to a report by Transport for New Homes following concerns that development are not planned to accommodate buses, cyclists or pedestrians.

The report, backed by the RAC Foundation, claims that poor planning is forcing people to use their cars and Morebus managing director Andrew Wickham said a single decker bus has the potential to take 75 cars off the road.

He said: "The development process of many new estates makes it difficult to run buses to and from them. We are working with Transport for New Homes, RAC Foundation and other interested parties, to encourage more consultation with bus companies at the very beginning of development."

He said bus travel "really can be the perfect solution to reducing congestion and improving air quality."

And he added: "We are playing our part in encouraging more people to leave their cars at home by investing in the very newest buses and enhancing our services in Bournemouth and Poole."
