CHERRIES boss Eddie Howe sent the thoughts and prayers of everyone at the club to Leicester City after their chairman was killed in a helicopter crash on Saturday.

Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha was one of five people on board when the helicopter came tumbling to the ground outside King Power Stadium after the Foxes' Premier League match against West Ham.

Speaking at the press conference ahead of Cherries' Carabao Cup match against Norwich this morning, Howe said it had been an "incredibly sad" weekend for everyone connected with football.

He said: "I can only say on behalf of Bournemouth, our thoughts and prayers are with them at this moment. It is incredibly sad and puts everything into perspective.

"We just hope they can find the strength to gather together and rally round.

"That has been one of the beautiful things this weekend – how football people have united in support of Leicester."

Floral tributes have taken over the areas around King Power Stadium since the tragic events on Saturday.

Flags at Vitality Stadium are flying at half-mast as the football world mourns.

Leicester City gained promotion to the Premier League in 2014. Two years later they claimed an historic Premier League title.

Howe added: "We have had some great battles on the pitch with them. They are a fantastic football club, a great stadium, their journey has been well-documented.

"The historic achievement they did a couple of seasons ago will never be forgotten.

"It is just very, very sad with the tragic events that have unfolded and our thoughts are with them."

Over the weekend, thoughts were also with former England manager Glenn Hoddle, who had a heart attack at BT Sport Studios on Saturday.

Howe revealed he had admired and looked up to what Hoddle achieved in the game.

"He really was the modern day playmaker, flair, creative player, who did so many wonderful things on the football pitch and then in management I really respected his style and philosophy and how he played the game," said Howe.

"I spoke to him on the phone a few times, met him in person, he is a great guy.

"It is very sad that he fell ill on Saturday and we wish him a speedy and full recovery."
