SKATERS and 'scooterers' will be helping to revamp the ramps at Baiter Park today.

The event, which starts at 2pm, has been organised to raise awareness for the need for a new skate park.

Skateboarding ramps will be re-painted and litter cleared from the area. Local councillors and members of the youth team have been invited to the event.

Skaters, BMX and scooter riders will also be in attendance. Efforts to raise £10,000 to fund a new skate park at Baiter are ongoing.

The original facility was built in 2001/02 but is now in a poor state of repair according to its users.

Jessica Nash, who set up the JustGiving page, said: "The skatepark has been there since I can remember and is important to so many people in the local community - it is a place that is used by people of all ages.

"The current skatepark has became rusted and dangerous and so many people of Poole would like it refurbished as it would be a great place for [families] to go, especially for children who do not have a garden at home."

She added a "safe place where anyone could practice or learn tricks without the worry of the stability of the ramps" was needed.
