AN augmented reality app which encouraged people in Bournemouth to take selfies with virtual characters has been nominated for an award.

The Go Bournemouth Coast augmented reality experience from Bournemouth Coastal BID is up for a prize in the national BID awards.

The app saw thousands of residents and visitors to the borough engage with the experience, which included elves for Christmas, dogs for Chinese New Year and bunnies for Easter.

Members of the public are being asked to vote for the app as their favourite 'place marketing' initiative.

Paul Clarke, Coastal BID chairman, said: “We are delighted to see Go Bournemouth Coast App nominated for the National BID Awards in the Place Marketing category.

"It has successfully used the latest digital technology to bring more customers to local businesses and it has been great to see so many people taking part.

"Going forward we hope you’ll help us through the next stage of the awards process and vote for us to win."
