A DELIVERY driver was allegedly caught speeding at 51 miles per hour in Bournemouth on Wednesday evening.

Police from Dorset Police's No Excuses team were on patrol in Castle Lane West and West Way at around 10pm when they stopped two motorists travelling at more than 50mph in the 30mph roads.

One was a delivery driver, while the second was a driver who had "finished work and wanted to get home quickly", officers claim.

Earlier in the day, the team stopped two motorists identified under the force's Op Dragoon, which aims to identity those most likely to kill or seriously injure others on Dorset's roads.

The first target was stopped in Boscombe.

A spokesperson from No Excuses alleged: "We had received information that the driver had a provisional licence and was driving unsupervised, also having no insurance.

"When stopped, we found he had a provisional licence, no insurance and was wanted for failing to appear at court.

"The driver already had points on his provisional licence for similar offences."

A second Op Dragoon target was then stopped on suspicion of driving under the influence. Officers alleged they could smell cannabis, and it is claimed the driver failed a roadside drugs test for cannabis and cocaine.

The spokesperson said: "We do continually follow up on those that we stop by targeting them again."
