BOURNEMOUTH has picked up a top gong at this year's Britain in Bloom awards.
The borough was granted the gold medal in the 'coastal town above 12,000 population category', alongside St Helier in Jersey.
The contest is arranged and judged each year by the Royal Horticultural Society.
Attending the ceremony in Belfast were Bournemouth in Bloom chairman Reverend Chris Colledge, vice-chairman Councillor Jane Kelly and secretary Beryl Parker, as well as council arboricultural manager Nick Colledge and Parks chief Andy McDonald. Cllr Kelly said: "A most wonderful achievement that everyone in Bournemouth should be so proud of and rejoice in the recognition of the towns horticultural excellence."
Mayor Cllr Derek Borthwick said: "The mayoress and I send congratulations to all those concerned, including many volunteers throughout Bournemouth. Our gardens and displays are so much a part of Bournemouth."
