PLANS to open a new 24-hour gym in Christchurch town centre are progressing with an application to install branded signage on the building.

The application for the unit in Saxon Square have been submitted by international gym group Anytime Fitness.

Permission to change the use of the premises from retail to offer a health and fitness facility was approved last December, before an attempt to extend the size of the gym was granted last month.

The units in Saxon Square are currently vacant, having previously operated as Priory Sports and New Look.

Anytime Fitness are now seeking permission to install two illuminated signs on the side of the building facing Saxon Square and a wall mounted sign facing the car park.
