BOURNEMOUTH'S biggest swimming pool will be closed for nearly five weeks for its biggest maintenance project in many years.

The Littledown Centre's pool, spa and changing rooms will be closed from November 19 until December 21.

Members and other customers are being urged to use swimming facilities at other centres operated by BH Live as an alternative.

The maintenance and improvements programme includes essential repairs, tiling and steelwork replacement in the pool area.

Swimming pool changing rooms will also receive long-overdue enhancements.

New showers, cubicles and toilets, replacement flooring, energy efficient lighting, ventilation and drainage improvement works will improve the overall ambience and customer experience.

In the spa, an under-used aroma room will be transformed into a steam room.

The work is being carried out by Bournemouth council in partnership with venue operator BH Live.

"Littledown has some of the finest community sport and swimming facilities in the country" said Cllr Pat Oakley, cabinet member for tourism, leisure and the arts.

"These essential works and improvements will make sure the facilities continue to meet people’s needs and preserve the lifespan of the pool."

Signs have been put up at the centre warning of the closure, which will lead to the refurbished facilities re-opening in time for the school Christmas holidays.

Other swimming pools, activities and classes are available at Stokewood, Pelhams and Queen’s Park leisure centres in Bournemouth and at Corfe Mullen. More details are available at bhliveactive.org.uk/swim

Mike Lyons, BH Live’s director for sport and leisure added: "We look forward to seeing the improved facilities and thank our customers for bearing with us throughout the works."

For further information about alternative facilities and activities, customers can also speak to a member of staff in the centre or call customer services on 01202 055550.
