PATIENTS with prostate problems will have an easier time at Royal Bournemouth Hospital thanks to a new piece of equipment donated by the League of Friends charity.
The £80,000 bi-polar system will allow urological surgeons to manage more safely bladder outflow obstruction in patients with enlarged prostates. The ability to carry out this procedure will reduce the need for the hospital to refer some patients elsewhere for their treatment.
Consultant Urological Surgeon Kevin Turner said: “The equipment is wonderful and is certainly an improvement on the equipment we had before and will result in a reduced length of stay and faster recovery for patients.”
He said the equipment will allow surgeons to tackle larger prostates in one sitting and with reduced blood loss. Post-operative stays will also be reduced.
