ADAM Smith admitted Cherries “didn’t do the dirty side” of football during their disappointing defeat at Burnley.

Despite having more shots, passes and possession than their hosts, the Dorset club found themselves on the wrong end of a 4-0 setback.

Ashley Barnes’s late double added to the visitors’ misery at Turf Moor following first-half goals from Matej Vydra and Aaron Lennon.

Burnley registered more tackles and clearances than Cherries, helping them on their way to a first Premier League win of the season.

Smith told the Daily Echo: “They played to their strengths, so fair play to them. We didn’t do the dirty side and got punished for it.

“I don’t think we got enough second balls and let a lot of crosses come in. We didn’t even get the second balls on the crosses. I felt it was disappointing and we did not do the rough side of it.

“We can do that side but it’s doing it at places like Burnley. We can do it at home and other places. It’s just certain games and I don’t know what it is.

“It was disappointing because we had a good start to the season and we wanted to build on it.”
