A DRUG driver who got behind the wheel has been banned from the roads after she failed to provide a specimen for police just two months later.

Sophie Barrett, of Stony Lane South in Christchurch, was first arrested in Shelbourne Road, Bournemouth on July 18. Police tests revealed she had more than 200 micrograms of cocaine derivative benzoylecgonine and more than 30 micrograms of methampetamine, or crystal meth, per litre of her blood.

On September 13, Barrett, 24, was arrested once again. Police asked her to provide a sample of her urine for analysis. However, the defendant failed without reasonable excuse to do so.

On Friday, September 14, Barrett admitted two counts of drug driving and one of failing to provide a specimen.

She was sentenced to a community order, under which she must have treatment for her drug dependency for six months and comply with a rehabilitation activity requirement for up to 10 days. She was also banned from driving for two-and-a-half years.
