A PLANNED tower of student flats will now feature a rooftop lounge and garden for residents.

Back in 2015 Bracken Developments Limited was refused permission for the block at 37-39 Oxford Road, however this was overturned on appeal.

Now Gilltown Ltd has been granted permission to amend the plans for the building's terminal 16th floor to include a lounge area and external terrace.

A report by planning officer Tom Hubbard states: "The taller corner element will have a different appearance with a greater amount of glazing at the front, and would add variation to the building.

"It is considered that the northern corner would be an appropriate area for the feature element, adds interest, and is supported in urban design terms.

"The overall height and mass is therefore very similar to the original outline application allowed on appeal and does not raise concern in this designated tall buildings area."

Several tall buildings are now under development or construction in the Lansdowne area, including a 19 storey tower of live/work accommodation on a neighbouring site at 35 Holdenhurst Road.
