A WOMAN allegedly admitted regularly taking cocaine when she was stopped with a two-year-old child in the backseat of her car, police say.

Officers from Dorset Police's No Excuses stopped the driver in Castle Lane West, Bournemouth this week.

The team have been looking out for the vehicle because its regular driver has repeatedly been stopped for driving while disqualified.

However, when it was pulled over on Tuesday, a woman was behind the wheel and the usual target was in the passenger seat.

A spokesperson from No Excuses said: "It was going well until we smelled cannabis.

"A drug wipe was conducted which came back positive for cocaine."

The officer alleged that the woman admitted "regularly taking cocaine at weekends".

"In the backseat was a two-year-old child," the officer said.

"The driver was arrested."

Social services have been informed and the woman has been released under investigation awaiting the results of further tests.

On Wednesday night, officers arrested the driver of a van after an incident in Boscombe.

The driver tailgated a police vehicle and officers allowed the van to overtake. It then sped off and police pulled the vehicle over.

"The driver jumped out their seat quickly, which always raises suspicion, and the smell of cannabis instantly hit us," the spokesperson alleged.

"A drug wipe was conducted which was positive for cannabis.

"The driver was arrested and taken to custody for the blood procedure, then released under investigation until we get the results."
