THE main route through Mudeford is to be completely closed next week for sewerage work.
Mudeford will be closed from Monday, September 10, to Friday, September 14, for 35m outside the Nelson Tavern, so drainage firm Rescue Rod can carry out a sewer connection
The closure comes on the heels of county council work on the B3059 Somerford Road and gas works in Barrack Road which are due to end today.
Christchurch mayor Councillor Lesley Dedman said the timing of the operation was “ludicrous” as other roadworks had forced extra traffic to pass through Mudeford.
“They are detouring people basically all around Christchurch,” she said.
“It seems totally unnecessary to close the road for five days. I have been told they will reopen sooner if possible.
“We were notified about this three weeks ago so it is obviously not that urgent.
“It is absolutely ludicrous to do this now unless it is the most terrible emergency.”
