THE actions of youths who threw stones at cars on a busy Christchurch road has been labelled as "completely unacceptable".

Grange ward councillor Denise Jones said she was "absolutely appalled" to hear a group of people were reportedly targeting vehicles in Somerford on Wednesday night.

As reported by the Daily Echo, the window of a Yellow Buses service was smashed and there were subsequent reports of stones being hurled at cars.

Councillor Jones said: "It shows no respect for peoples' safety as it is not just a game.

"It is something where somebody can get killed or badly injured. I think they should be adult enough to know what damage they can cause.

"We do not know they were from Somerford, but wherever they are from their actions are completely unacceptable."

Previous similar incidents in the area two years ago resulted in the bus service being withdrawn.

Councillor Jones said this was a "great inconvenience".

"I feel very strongly they should think about the consequences of their actions," she added.

"We are very disappointed that this has arisen again. The trouble is you get copycats and they do not realise the damage they can do.

"If they think it is a game they need to realise right away that it isn't a game."
