COUNCILLORS are set to decide whether taxi tokens should continue in East Dorset.
A report to the meeting of the cabinet on Wednesday recommends travel tokens are recalled on October 1 and recipients reimbursed up to six months of token allowance.
It also asks for the scheme to be closed to applicants from the end of the month, but continue for existing recipients.
The current scheme is open to new applicants but the numbers of people applying over the last few years has "steadily declined", according to the report.
Each eligible recipient is awarded £40 of tokens per year.
The current number of recipients is 51; in 2017 it was 112.
The report adds: "If a customer moves out of area, or are deceased, tokens should be returned.
This is not enforced and rarely happens.
"The cost to East Dorset will be approximately £2100 per annum based on existing recipients. "Once the scheme is closed to new applicants the cost will not rise any further and over time will diminish."
