POLICE concerned for the welfare of a man following a possible incident in Boscombe say he has been found "safe and well".

At 7.51am on Sunday morning, the man reported he had been threatened by another man outside McDonald’s restaurant in Christchurch Road.

However, almost immediately after making the report, he said that everything was fine and he was leaving the scene and ended his call to the police.

Due to the seriousness of the allegation, police wanted to speak to the possible victim and managed to do so by phone a short while later.

At this point the man, who had given his name as Daniel James, disclosed that he was very upset and might come to some harm.

Following this, police made a number of enquiries and officers attended Christchurch Road to establish the man’s exact identity in order to ensure he is safe and well.

Police were unable to locate him. However, shortly before 10am on Monday a spokesperson for Dorset Police said Daniel has been found "safe and well in Bournemouth".

"We would like to thank everyone who shared our appeal," they added.

Chief Inspector Lance Cliff, of Dorset Police, said previously: “Daniel told us that his brother died at Christmas and his five-year-old son died this week, but we have not been able to verify these details."

He added police had only had contact with Daniel over the phone and had no description or photo of him.
