POLICE in Purbeck say they have dealt with an "increasing number" of burglaries at properties over the summer.
Sheds and garages have been targeted as well as commercial properties and farm buildings, Purbeck Police said.
Now they are urging residents to protect their properties from potential thieves.
A spokesperson said: “Windows are often burglars preferred method of gaining access. Take a good look at your windows from the outside and remove any potential access points such as bins or garden furniture.”
Other advice includes keeping expensive possessions out of sight including TVs and computers, closing and locking garage doors and asking a neighbour to open and close windows and move post when you are on holiday.
People are also being urged to register valuables for free at immobilise.com.
