A NINE-year-old girl on holiday in Bournemouth has become the latest victim of a dog attack.

The young girl was bitten on her inner right thigh by a labrador crossed with a Staffordshire bull terrier.

She was taken to the Royal Bournemouth Hospital to have her wound bandaged and has now returned to her home in Leicester with her parents and grandparents.

The dog was detained by officers and was taken to police kennels.

The incident comes just three weeks after 22-month-old Kira Neal suffered horrific facial injuries during an attack by a Staffordshire pit bull terrier in a Bournemouth pub garden.

Kira needed more than 50 stitches to her face after the attack in the garden of the Famous Old Pines pub in Winton.

Dorset Police are urging anyone who witnessed this latest attack, which occurred outside Costa Coffee near Bournemouth Pier at 9.15pm on Monday to contact them.

PC Adrian Stocker, of Bournemouth Police, said: "I'm appealing for anyone who witnessed this dog bite to contact Dorset Police.

"I would also like to hear from anyone else who may have seen the manner of this dog in the Bournemouth pier area."

Anyone with information should contact the police on 01202 222222 or the anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555111.

A 35-year-old man from Surrey was arrested and has been released on police bail while enquiries continue.
